The new SEC chairman is actually FTX’s compliance consultant

The big melon for the replacement of the US SEC president that everyone is paying attention to finally came to an end a few days ago.

Trump ultimately nominated Paul Atkins as the new SEC.

Hester Peirce, the SEC encryption mother who had been very popular before, also tweeted early on to express her support:

Atkins was at the SEC a long time ago. The last time was nominated as a SEC committee member by Bush Jr. in 2002, and it continued until 2008.

When he was in the SEC, Bitcoin had not yet been released.

After leaving the SEC, Atkins established a consulting company called Patomak Global Partners, which mainly helps customers provide compliance consulting services.

Interestingly, this consulting company took over a well-known client: FTX in January 2022.

From Patomak to FTX, the cumulative service time was as long as 10 months.

After this battle, I believe Atkins must have a good understanding of the dangers of the encryption circle~

But even if FTX crashed and SBF had a real fraud, Atkins still believes that the reason why things are so big is that US regulation is not suitable for the new technology of encryption.

Since 2017, Atkins has been the co-chair of Token Alliance, a lobbying organization that is vigorously promoting the large-scale landing of crypto assets.

It can be said that Atkins is a tycoon who knows encryption and is deeply involved in the development of the industry.

In addition to the chairman, the SEC will also have four members, with a total of 5 people forming the SEC’s top leader.

Currently, two Republican members support encryption, while three Democratic members restrict encryption.

Among them, the current SEC chairman Gary Gensler and his younger brother Jaime Lizarraga are both sure to resign after Trump takes office.

At the beginning, the Bitcoin spot ETF was Lizarraga, the dead-hard-hand man, who firmly opposed it.

Because of Lizarraga’s resignation, the president can also nominate a commissioner after supporting the cryptocurrency Atkins succeeds the SEC chairman.

According to Trump’s style, maybe another big shot who supports encryption will be nominated as a SEC committee member.

At that time, the committee members who support encryption will be able to occupy 4 seats, and the future is promising ~
