Manta Lianchuang: Only a few Ethereum L2 can survive in the next 5 years

Author: Tom Mitchelhill, Cointelegraph; Compilation: Deng Tong, Bit Chain Vision Realm

Kenny Li, co -founder of Manta Pacific, said that of the 44 active Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain, “only a few” will still exist within five years.

According to L2Beat data,At present, there are 44 active Ethereum Layer2 networks, with a total locking value (TVL) of US $ 36.92 billion, of which Arbitrum (ARB) ranks first with a $ 14.5 billion TVL.

However, LI, chief operating officer and co -founder of Manta Pacific, claimed thatIn the future, only “modular” blockchain roads such as Manta, CELESTIA and COSMOS.

However, critics of this view believe that the term is just a “marketing gimmick”, and the success of the network has nothing to do with its development methods and scalability.

“Single” BTC and ETH killer

LI believes that a large number of new Layer 2 on the Ethereum network is drawing the same path as Bitcoin and the Ethereum network as the past, but none of them are “surviving”.

“For all Bitcoin forks -Bitcoin cash and BSV -they have adopted existing technology and split them,” Li explained.

“They said,‘ Do you know. We will make some small changes to it. By making these small changes to it, we will create things that “better than Bitcoin’. ”

“In 2024, there are only Bitcoin. No other Bitcoin fork community has any comparable indicators, and there is no comparable community and even close to the original Bitcoin.”

LI added that the same thing happened in Ethereum in 2016. At that time, new networks such as EOS and NEO tried to position themselves as “Ethereum Killer” by providing alternative EVM and VM environments. The square ecosystem is slightly adjusted.

From the perspective of LI, the core issues of all Bitcoin and Ethereum “forks” are all “overall”, which means that they do not allow new technologies that emerge over time and use over time.

“They are all built as a whole, what happened, right? Time is about to enter 2024. Ethereum is the leader.”

“Will we see so many L2 in about five years? I don’t think so. Only a few can survive.”

The modular blockchain is the network of the main task of the export; the execution, settlement, consensus and data availability of the external blockchain, which supporters say that this provides greater design flexibility.

In contrast, the overall blockchain is given priority to the single system architecture, which handles all tasks in the network single layer.

However, some people believe that there is no reason to controversy “modularity and overall”.

Maybe this is “marketing gimmick”

Austin Federa, the strategic director of the Solana Foundation, describes the “marketing gimmicks” introduced by Celestia around the relatively new arguments of these two terms.

Although many people will be understood by Ethereum’s more “modular” architecture (relying on Layer 2 to complete a specific task) as a direct contrast to the “overall” nature of other higher throughput networks such as Solana or AvalancheThe term.

“We must remember that modularity and overall debate are completely a marketing gimmick.“Fedra said.” Celestia created the difference between modularity and overall. This is not a natural difference, and there is no organic component.”

LI claims that Manta launched on January 18 can be described as “the first and largest” modular Layer 2 network on Ethereum, because it uses OP stacks of OPTIMISM and uses CELESTIA to achieve data usability (although Ethereum United Union United Union United Union Union UnionThe founder Vitalik Buterin believes) saying that it makes it “value” instead of true L2).

As of the release of this article, as far as TVL is concerned, Manta is the fourth largest Layer 2 network. It was not recently replaced by the new Layer 2 BLAST, and the latter launched the main network on March 1.

“We will not build it in a single way.” We have not constructed any core architecture ourselves, “Li explained.

“We use a very modular method, which means that we can basically plug and play different technologies that can be used in different times, so that we can continue to meet the changing needs,” Li added.

However, Federa believes that there are no need to distinguish these two methods.

“The fact is that there is no such thing as a modular system, and there is no such thing as a single system.”

Federa explained,The overall network is just a “integrated” blockchain. The tasks are processed in a single layer, while the “modular” or “fragments” network is completed across multiple layers.Contribution or the result of a given network.

“This is like the words” anti -abortion ‘and’ support abortion ‘are two positive interpretations of something, right? Just like no one really opposes life or opposes choices, right? This is just marketingTerms, the purpose is to put forward some kind of narrative that people want to talk about. “

“I think setting these things as inconsistent with each other is not a particularly useful or accurate way to think about these systems.” They are just different software architecture options, and they are actually not so different, “Fedra said.
