Arweave 17th edition of white paper interpretation (7): How to keep pace with the times

Author: Gerry Wang, Source: Twitter @Aarweaveoasis

This article will be the last part of the interpretation of the white paper. This part is not a demonstration of the core mechanism of Arweave, but a model that can evolve the health evolution of the agreement, but also a good supplement to the core mechanism.

We all know that there is no agreement or mechanism in the world that can run perfectly forever.A good evolution model can ensure better evolution with the advancement of technology. This article gives an evolution mechanism about Arweave.

Over time, the network environment where the Arweave agreement will change will inevitably change.Real permanent storage requires a system that can adapt to these changes. We found that the existing blockchain protocol governance method failed to achieve the adaptability of the protocol and the long -term maintenance of user guarantee. In order to solve these problems, the governance mechanism deployed in the Arweave network has been improved on the basis of the traditional blockchain fork model, providing a framework for the evolution of incentive protocols. The governance procedure of Arweave network is exactlyConstitutional natureofThey are social agreements between community participants, allowing technology to change according to needs. The complete framework and the principles it reference can be found on the Arweave network itself.

Overview

The core of the framework is a system that activates and reward innovations without permission by making forks on the Arweave protocol. This mechanism has led to a form of evolution: providing mechanism guarantees for the improvement of the improvement version of the better agreement for generation, testing, and selecting a better agreement.

It allows anyone with ideas to propose an improved version with a reward, so as to form a market that has evolved for mechanisms.Generally speaking, the function of this mechanism is as follows:

  1. Innovatives choose to carry out their new jobs based on the previous version. They choose their innovative parent version based on their own understanding and applicability.

  2. Innovators then created a new version of the agreement and submitted them to the community to cast the number of new token they believed to the reasonable reward they contributed to them.

  3. Finally, community members evaluate this new improved version. If it provides sufficient improvement within a reasonable range, choose to use it instead of other choices.

  4. This process has created an agreement that evolved with the environment. It minimizes its dilution while maximizing its practicality and adaptability. It can be seen that the new version of themselves proposed is recognized and accepted. Innovators need to meet the needs of the two major markets of protocol users and other innovators at the same time.Once this goal is achieved, they will get a reward for the market.

    Cooperative motivation

This kind of mechanism that does not require permission encourages all market participants to cooperate, rather than compete with the early version of the agreement.Specifically, there are three reasons to inspire anyone who trys to build a permanent data storage system to participate in this mechanism:

    • Faithful participation in this mechanism allows them to easily promote the adoption of the improved version through an active and highly involved user base. This maximizes their innovation rewards, and also minimize cost expenses.

    • By faithfully participating in the mechanism, innovators can expect their improved versions to become part of the ancestral bloodline of the permanent data storage system. As a result, others will advance their agreements (their data and tokens).

    • Any builder trying to create a permanent information storage system requires a flexible and adaptable mechanism to cope with an environment that will definitely change over time.Arweave’s evolutionary framework provides a solution that everyone can participate in without cost or restrictions on this issue.

Therefore, the real costs incurred by innovators are extremely low, so participating in this mechanism is more ideal than creating a competitive service by themselves.

    Unified incentives for data sets

There is another powerful incentive to the innovators: to maximize the value of their newly evolved versions by merging data.Because a unified protocol is usually more valuable than the evolutionary version of a split system. The basic strategy of reaching this unified includes two elements: solve the technical problems of different communities, and incorporate the branch data into new evolution. If it is executed correctly, this unified data strategy will allow community members to continue to participate in the power of the fork, because unified data sets often maximize value.

Figure 1: Data from the fork can be in the evolution version accepted by the fusion.

If the result of the following expressions is positive, the innovator has the motivation to merge different forks on the evolutionary tree:

    in:

V = net value gain or loss caused by fusion data from the fork.

    F_M = Market capitalization.

C_D = If the old data is fused, how much market capitalization will be transferred from the old fork to the new fork.

C_N = Regardless of whether the new data is fused, the proportion of market capitalization will be transferred from the old fork to the new fork.

D_C = Copy the cost required to copy the old data to the new evolution version.

D_V = The inherent social value of data from the fork in the new evolution.

In this equation, the value of D_C is usually smaller than F_M, and innovatives will be inspired to unify the most prominent fork data. Therefore, even if the user’s data is uploaded to the fork, there is still a high probability that it will be unified into the subsequent authoritative evolution version in the future.

The effect of comprehensively evaluating these incentives is that tokens will accumulate a series of assets in different evolutionary versions, and Arweave users can expect their data to be maintained by a continuous improvement of the agreement, evolving with the evolution of the network.
