Compiled by: Deng Tong, Bitchain Vision

“If you support cryptocurrency, you’d better vote for Trump.”

Former US President Trump has recently played the “crypto card” through a series of words and deeds to increase his bargaining chips.

Force the spot Ethereum ETF to pass, accept cryptocurrency donations, ensure that the crypto revolution will take place in the United States, release the founder of the Silk Road, and consider pardoning WikiLeaks founder Assange, are all Trump’s latest campaign weapons.

So, can Trump, who plays the “crypto card”, win over American voters to beat Biden in the general election? Will his promise about cryptocurrencies be just a short check? Will he win?

1. The “crypto” card Trump plays for voters

1. Campaign pressure forces spot Ethereum ETF to accept crypto donations

On May 8, 2024, Trump told crypto supporters at Mar-Lago that, as the Biden administration has taken regulatory crackdowns on the industry, “If you support cryptocurrency, you’d better vote for Trump.”

On May 21, 2024, the Trump 2024 campaign announced that it would accept donations from cryptocurrencies such as BTC, ETH, GOGE, SOL, SHIB, XRP, USDC and ZRX.

Perhaps feeling the political pressure of Trump’s campaign, the US SEC under Biden’s leadership changed 180 degrees of attitude towards spot Ethereum ETFs, and approved the 19b-4 documents of all 8 spot Ethereum ETFs on May 23.

2.Release the founder of the Silk Road

On May 25, 2024, Trump appeared at the National Congress of the Liberal Party of America, intending to win over American liberalists. He promised that if he was re-elected president, he would reduce the life sentence of Silk Road founder Ross Ubrich to serving his sentence. The remarks aroused a warm cheer from the audience, many of whom held signs saying “Release Rose”.

I will support five thousand domesticallyThe autonomous custody rights of cryptocurrency holders. I say this, only if you vote for me can I keep Elizabeth Warren and her men away from your bitcoin. I am absolutelyThe creation of central bank digital currencies will not be allowed.”

On the same day, Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social, saying: “I am very positive and open to cryptocurrency companies and everything related to this emerging industry. Our country must be ahead in this field.”Status, no second place. Instead, Joe Biden is the worst president in our country’s history, hoping that cryptocurrencies will die slowly and in pain.”

2. Can Trump win more votes by playing the crypto card?

On March 14, 2024, a poll released by Paradigm showed that 19% of registered voters in the United States purchased cryptocurrencies.Paradigm’s poll further shows that cryptocurrency holders are more supportive of Trump, with Trump’s approval rating (48%) surpassing Biden’s approval rating (39%) and 13% have not yet decided. And the cryptocurrency ownership rate among people of color and young people is crucial to the situation in the “swing states”.

Due to its competitiveness, swing states have received great attention from both sides and campaign resources during the election. These data generally suggest that cryptocurrency owners themselves are a swing voting group that may play a decisive role if the election is another close campaign.

According to a DGC survey, 26% of respondents said they were concerned about candidates’ stance on cryptocurrencies, and 21% said cryptocurrencies are an important issue to consider during the upcoming election period.

The overall stance of respondents on cryptocurrencies may be attributed to the feeling of overregulation: 55% fear policymakers will stifle innovation through overregulation.

3. Industry insiders’ criticism of Trump

Charles Hoskinson, Ethereum co-founder and Cardano founder:The Trump administration “basically ignores” the cryptocurrency industry, while “the Biden administration has taken coordinated actions to eliminate cryptocurrencies.”

Monica Tah, former head of technology and business innovation at the El Salvador government:Cryptocurrencies “are used by some opportunist politicians to advance themselves and present themselves as innovators.

1. Who is Assange?

Julian Paul Assange(Julian Paul Assange) is an Australian journalist and activist who created the unveiling website WikiLeaks in 2006.WikiLeaks released a series of decrypted incidents provided by US Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning in 2010, attracting international attention.

On November 30, 2010, at the request of the Office of the International Public Prosecutor in Sweden, Interpol issued an international arrest warrant against Assange on suspicion of sexual crimes. On December 7, Assange surrendered to the London Police Department, but he denied the allegations. On June 19, 2012, Assange entered the Ecuadorian Embassy in the UK during bail to seek political asylum. In August of the same year, Assange received political asylum from the Ecuadorian government and has lived in the embassy for nearly seven years.

Before becoming WikiLeaks’ spokesperson and editor, Assange was a student, programmer, and hacker in physics and mathematics. He has traveled to many countries, lived in no fixed place, and occasionally appeared in public places, explaining his views on press freedom, censorship and investigative journalism.

On April 4, 2019, WikiLeaks tweeted a message from a senior Ecuadorian government saying that Assange would be expelled under the pretext of a scandal and reached a deal with the UK to arrest him.

On April 11, 2019, the London Police Department said that it was approved by the librarians of the Ecuadorian Embassy in the UK and entered the museum to arrest Julian Assange.

On May 23, 2019, the U.S. government further accused Assange of violating the 1917 Espionage Act.Editors of newspapers such as the Washington Post and the New York Times, as well as press freedom organizations criticized the government’s decision to accuse Assange under the Espionage Act, describing the decision as a First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that guarantees freedom of the pressattack.

On December 10, 2021, the UK Supreme Court in London ruled that Assange could be extradited to the United States to accept charges.

On July 1, 2022, Assange announced a formal appeal to the extradition order.

On May 20, 2024, the British High Court heard the case of Assange’s extradition appeal again.

2. Assange and Cryptocurrency

(1) Assange has received a large amount of cryptocurrency donations

On April 11, 2019, Assange shouted “You have to resist, you can resist” when he was arrested by police at the Ecuadorian Embassy in the UK, and the incident instantly caused a strong reaction in the cryptocurrency community.Within 24 hours of the incident, Wikipedia’s official Bitcoin address released by the company received hundreds of BTC donations, with a total transaction amount of over 40,000 US dollars.Almost all of the top 100 currencies with market value on the same day showed a downward trend, with Bitcoin falling by more than 6% in a single day.

Since 2010, WikiLeaks has successively released the Afghan war diary, Iraq war records and tens of thousands of US diplomatic telegrams. On December 5, 2010, the US government stopped all WikiLeaks donations from traditional financial institutions such as credit cards, bank cards, etc.In order to enable the website to continue to operate and continue to speak out for justice, passers-by who know Bitcoin and related communities have begun to call on WikiLeaks to accept Bitcoin donations to break the financial closure. This proposal was firmly opposed by Satoshi Nakamoto at that time; and the coincidence that Satoshi casually left his last post and disappeared from Bitcointalk a week after the incident made many people suspect that the WikiLeaks incident prompted Satoshi Nakamoto to get ahead of time.Catalysts leaving the project.

The donated Bitcoin has brought Assange hundreds of times more profits.During the 2017 Bitcoin bull market, Assange challenged the US government on Twitter, saying that he thanked them for closure of WikiLeaks, otherwise WikiLeaks would not have started using and investing in Bitcoin, and it has won more than 500 times in a few years. The reward.

(2) Assange and NFT Auction

On February 10, 2022, AssangeDAO, named after WikiLeaks founder Assange, won a part of Julian Assange’s NFT series Censored, Clock, with 1,593 ETHs (worth approximately $53 million).

Clock is a standalone NFT, and the prototype is a silent timer that counts the number of days Assange spent in prison.Proceeds raised from the NFT sale will be used to pay Assange’s attorney fees to the Wau Holland Foundation defending Julian Assange.Additionally, AssangeDAO’s JUSTICE governance tokens can be claimed on Juicebox for donors.

On the morning of February 9, AssangeDAO ended its fundraising on Juicebox, raising a total of 17,422 ETHs.
