After nine months of review, the developers behind Celo chose OP Stack as infrastructure migrate to Ethereum.
The software company CLABS behind CELO stated in a forum post on Monday that the migration of OP Stack will be submitted to the community to vote.If it is successful, it will launch Layer 2 test network in the summer of 2024.
CLABS in July 2023For the first timeMove to Layer-2.
According to Coingecko, in a day when the cryptocurrency market is basically the same as it is, the native token of Celo and Optimism has risen by about 5%.
CELO’s Layer-launched on Earth Day in 2020, focusing on global financial inclusiveness and environmental health.Clabs raised $ 30 million from A16Z and Polychain in 2019 to develop the project. It completed another round of $ 20 million in financing in 2021.
Layer 1 is compatible with Ethereum virtual machine (EVM), which means that Ethereum smart contracts can run on Celo.
CLABS chief technical officer Marek Olszewski said on the X Space on Monday that the method of EIP-1559 implemented by Celo is slightly different from Ethereum, and the cost of maintaining compatibility with Ethereum is “quite high”.
CELO’s Github shows that users have paid basic GAS fees and tips for the transaction, just like EIP-1559 of Ethereum, but some small modifications were made. For example, the basic expenses are paid to Celo’s community funds, not burned like Ethereum.
“We have always been very focused on the height of Ethereum, and we have learned lessons before,” Olszewski added when discussing the reason for CELO to choose OP Stack.
CLABS hopes that Celo’s Layer 2 retains some functions of Layer 1, such as single -block finality, which helps to quickly settle in transaction and prevent chain rolling or reorganization -even Ethereum itself.OLSZEWSKI said that some less useful functions may disappear with migration.
In addition to Optimism, Celo also considers the use of ARBITRUM, Polygon or ZKSYNC technology stack to build its Layer 2.
If the migration is successful, Optimism will add another famous customer to its so -called Layer 2 super chain, which usually pays 2.5% of the income of Optimism.Coinbase launched Base with OP Stack. Last week, the WorldCoin supported by Sam Altman said its Layer 2 will be built using OP Stack.
The author of the CLABS proposal wrote that OP stack is “becoming the open standard of Layer 2”, and the establishment of a “positive and partnership” in the super chain that may cause other chains that can be constructed by the technology stack.
