Emerson survey: How young American voters view encryption, TikTok ban

A new national survey by Emerson College found thatAbout one in five (19%) voters have invested, traded, or used cryptocurrencies, while 81% have not.Among voters who have used cryptocurrencies, 61% have not used cryptocurrencies for any purchases, while 39% have used them.

Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College polls, said:Cryptocurrency users are younger and minority groups are larger, which highlights cryptocurrencies as a growing, diversified politically supportive constituency: 57% of cryptocurrency users have a good impression of Donald Trump.”Nearly one-third of voters under the age of 40 have used cryptocurrencies, and this percentage has declined with age, with 28% of voters in their 40s, 17% of voters in their 50s, and 60s9% of voters, while only 4% of voters in their 70s are cryptocurrency users.”

  • Men are twice as likely to use cryptocurrencies as women:26% of men use cryptocurrency, compared with 13% for women.

  • Cryptocurrency users are also more likely to be minority groups:About one-third of Asian, Hispanic or Black voters participate in cryptocurrencies, compared with 14% of white voters.

Tariff Policy

Most voters believe such tariffs will harm the U.S. economy for additional tariffs imposed on Canada, Mexico and China: 51% believe that imposing additional tariffs on Canada will harm the U.S. economy, 50% believe that imposing additional tariffs on Mexico will harm the U.S. economy, and 49% believe that imposing additional tariffs on China will harm the U.S. economy.39% believe that imposing tariffs on China will help the U.S. economy, 36% believe that imposing tariffs on Mexico will help the U.S. economy, and 32% believe that imposing tariffs on Canada will help the U.S. economy.

Kimball said: “Voters’ attitudes toward tariffs are very different from their voting preferences in 2024. Among Trump’s voters, 69% believe that imposing tariffs on China will help the economy, while 17% disagree.By comparison, 79% of Harris voters believe China’s tariffs will harm the economy, and 13% think they are beneficial.”

Should Biden’s son be pardoned

President Joe Biden has a 36% approval rating and a 54% non-support rating.His approval rating reflects his November data, while his unsupport rate rose by 2%.Over the past month, President-elect Trump’s approval rating has remained stable at 51%, while 45% have a negative view of him.

Voters were asked whether they support or oppose President Biden’s pardon for his son Hunter.Most (52%) objected, 28% supported, and 19% uncertain.Voters were also asked whether they would support President-elect Trump’s pardon for those related to the January 6 incident; 50% opposed, 34% supported, and 16% neutral.

Healthcare CEO assassinated

The majority of voters (68%) believe that the killing of United Medical CEO Brian Thompson’s murderer is unacceptable.17% think this behavior is acceptable, while 16% are unsure.

“While 68% of voters generally reject the killer’s behavior, young voters and Democrats have a greater disagreement – ​​among voters aged 18-29, 41% believe that the killer’s behavior is acceptable (24% are acceptable, 17% totally acceptable), while 40% think it is unacceptable; 22% of Democrats think it is acceptable, 59% think it is unacceptable, compared with 12% of Republicans and 16% of independents think this is acceptable, highlighting the shift in social attitudes within the youngest voters and parties.”

Men tend to think that this behavior is acceptable compared to women: 19% of men think that this behavior is acceptable, compared with only 14% of women.

TikTok ban

Most U.S. voters (40%) support banning TikTok from January 19, 30% oppose it, and 30% uncertain.

“Half of voters under 30 oppose the TikTok ban, and 34% support it,” Kimball said.“Support for the ban usually increases with age, with the highest support among voters in their 60s at 46%.

Survey on the favorability of candidates in early 2028

Voters were asked if they had a good impression of several public figures mentioned earlier in Emerson’s national poll in November.Mark Cuban (35% liked, 10% never heard of), Alexander Ocasio-Cortez (29% liked, 14% never heard of) and Pete Buttigieg (34% liked, 15% never heard of) the potential candidate among the most well-known voters.

Among Democratic voters, Pete Buttigieg (57%), Alexander Ocasio-Cortez (54%), Gavin Newsom (50%), and Gretchen Whitmer (46%) and Mark Cuban (44%) are the most popular potential candidates.

“It is worth noting that although Cuban ranks fifth among Democrats, he is 33% ahead of independents,” Kimball said.“At the same time, the AOC became the most polarized figure, with strong support from the Democratic Party but also strong opposition from the Republican Party.”

Vice-President-elect JD Vance has different approval ratings: 41% have a good impression of the future vice-president, while 41% have a negative view of him.Elon Musk, the future co-head of government efficiency, also has a different favorability among voters: 43% have a favorable impression of Musk, while 43% have a negative opinion of him.
