EigenLayer founder argues: ETH vs SOL ETH will be the winner

Note: Who will be the ultimate winner in the ETH and SOL battles?EigenLayer founder Sreeram Kannan debated with Solana Foundation Lily Liu on Crypto Research Day 2024 two weeks ago (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLrcxVjfzZU), and Sreeram Kannan believes it is ETH that will win.

EigenLayer founder Sreeram Kannan posted on October 16 to summarize the key points of his debate with Lily Liu.Bitchain Vision xiaozou compiles this article.

The reasons why ETH will win are as follows:

– ETH: Nested Coordination + Asynchronous Extension

– SOL: Fast, but full replication mode limits growth.

– L2s: It is regarded as a weakness, but it is actually ETH’s hypersonic missile.

-Cultural: ETH Value>Personal Income (This is very important!)

-Vision: ETH = World Computer, SOL = Fast Edition Nasdaq.

-Pros and cons: ETH builds trust, SOL iterates quickly.

Don’t rush to draw conclusions, there is more to say…

1. Core argument: ETH L2 architecture = nested coordination mechanism

– Self-enforcing (forking: forked only if the block is verified by the end user) takes about a few days.

-Majoritarian (the validator completes a block) takes several minutes.

– Committee (Eigenlayer Verifiers Committee gives fast economic finality) takes 1 second.

– Authoritarian (sorting instant confirmation) takes 10 seconds.

The result is Instagram-scale user experience and Bitcoin-scale self-verification!

2. ETH baseline?Trust comes from predictability.

Imagine 500 people quarreling over the slightest change.Sounds like a nightmare, right? But that’s the advantage of ETH.

ETH has built long-term trust. You are sure the rules won’t change overnight.

What is the situation with SOL?An organization can change the rules of the game at any time. The boundaries between protocol and application are blurred.

3. What are the constraints of SOL?Completely copied (as with all other cryptocurrencies).

-Each node needs to download all data

-System throughput <Single-node bandwidth

-The more nodes, the greater the throughput

This is a dead end of scalability.

What is the answer given by ETH?Danksharding.

– n nodes* 10MB/s = n* 10MB/s throughput

-More nodes = More throughput

-For 1M validators, we are talking about theoretical TB/s.

-This is not a typo.

EigenDA is making this come true. That’s now.

L2: ETH’s Secret Weapon

-Instant confirmation (100ms)

-Borrow security from ETH

– Now is the best place to build most applications

4. Culture > Strategy

ETH Culture> SOL Strategy. Why?Because of common values: anti-censorship, openness and innovation, credibility and neutrality.

These are more than just fashionable empty words. They are the basis of trust.

5. ETH’s Vision: World Computer

More than just faster payments. We are talking about applications with reliable commitments.

Imagine an encrypted native Facebook promises: “We will not change our privacy policy without the consent of most users.”

How to do it?Make the calculation verifiable on ETH.Users can trust commitments. There is no longer a web2 “accept or leave” ultimatum. This is the power of the ETH world computer vision.

6. Self-verification: ETH’s North Star

Every user should verify the complete system.Sounds crazy?Maybe. But this is the key to true decentralization. This constraint initially limits throughput.

rollup cracked this password and changed the rules of the game:

-Keep self-verification

-Sharp throughput increases

-User verification proof, not all data

7. Asynchronous and synchronous composability

ETH: Asynchronous Composability

SOL: Synchronous Composability

Most real-world applications require asynchronous composability.Think about MMO games.

8. Asset entry and liquidity

SOL: A large pool

ETH: Distributed on L2

SOL looks simpler. But there is one problem: single point of failure.

ETH may appear to be more dispersed.

But that’s not the case.It is elastic.

ETH = programmable currency across all L2s.

Long-term elasticity>Short-term convenience.

9. Ecosystem development: The advantages of ETH

Why do we develop EigenLayer on ETH?Very simple. For predictability.

You know the rules of the game of ETH.They won’t change overnight. What about the ETH chain itself? It won’t steal your lunch either.

Sure, Solana has the advantage of speed, but there is one problem: an organization can swallow any brilliant idea.

Where is the boundary between a protocol and an application?I’m just like you, I can’t figure it out.

ETH is an open playground.Development and innovation based on L2.You can fall asleep easily.

Your thoughts are always your thoughts.

What’s the result?ETH attracts serious builders.Visionary people gather together to fight a protracted battle.

10. ETH vs SOL results

SOL=Sprinter

ETH=Marathon runner

In the cryptocurrency field, we are fighting a protracted war.

The future is not “speed”orThe single choice of “safety” is “speed”andSafe”.

ETH + EigenLayer implements this.

We are not just developing and building based on ETH, we are rapidly promoting its development.
