Pokémon card tokenization platform at a glance

source:Bankless;Compiled: bitchain vision

Pokémon card is on.At first glance, this idea may be a bit strange. However, after careful observation, you will find that this intersection makes sense.

As Bitwise’s Danny Nelson recently emphasized,Pokémon Cards Are A Multi-Billion Dollar Market, at least so far, it has been off-chain, informal, inefficient, and so on.

In contrast, the card tokenization platform offers a variety of new advantages, such as all-weather global liquidity, instant resale, DeFi composability, transparent sources, vault services, and more.

These benefits are also becoming popular.Last month, the transaction volume of the top card tokenization platform exceeded US$120 million, mainly through digital package ripping, secondary trading and Gacha games.

Nevertheless, there are already several mature projects in this field, and the number of emerging projects is increasing.

Courtyard

Courtyard has been operating on the Polygon platform for more than two years and has taken the lead in adopting the NFT (non-fungible token) solution based on physical assets, which is widely popular among tokenized card platforms.Pokémon cards are a major selling point for Courtyard, especially through its Vending Machine, but it also stands out for supporting sports cards and comic collections.Courtyard trades close to $80 million last month, currently in a leading position. As for KYC, there are no other requirements except for redeeming cards and sending cards, but your data will be deleted after 90 days and Courtyard will never see these data.

Collector Crypt

However, the next biggest challenger, Collector Crypt, is catching up.Built on Solana, the platform hit $44 million in trading last month, only through Pokémon cards and Gacha Machine in its market. In addition to this excellence,Another difference from Courtyard is that it has native token CARDS, which has soared to $85 million since its launch less than a week ago.It should be noted that the platform requires you to provide personal information to withdraw funds (such as name, address, the last four digits of social security number, etc.), so please be cautious and do not deposit anything you don’t want to sign.

Phygitals

Another new project to make progress on Solana is Phygitals. You don’t need to deposit anything here, because you just have to carry your own wallet (such as Phantom) to trade in Marketplace.Like Courtyard, KYC information is only required when redeeming cards. The platform had trading volumes of $2 million in August, up 245% month-on-month, so it started to be on an uptrend. In addition to the card store, Phygitals also has a simple claw grab machine that can buy random Pokémon bags, with crawlings ranging from $1 to $500.A new auction system is also underway, and users can bid for advanced cards.

Emporium

Another platform worth noting on Solana is Emporium.Like Phygitals, it uses Privy to create an account, so you can log in with an email or Google account.Again, you don’t have to deposit here, as you can connect your own wallet.Of the projects I currently mention, in terms of speed and convenience of buying and selling, I find Emporium’s vending machines have the smoothest open user experience. It allows you to buy a random PSA Level 10 Pokémon card for $60 per card, and if you don’t like the card you draw, you can immediately sell it at 85% of its market value. As for redemption, you just have to provide your address and pay for shipping (up to 10 cards, $25).

At present, the above-mentioned platform is the most well-known platform in the field of tokenized cards, but its application scope is rapidly expanding. Some other new projects worth watching include:

RIP.FUN

RIP is built on Base and is currently in closed beta, so you need an invitation code to get started. It is designed to be the hub for Pokémon cards on the chain, where you can open mysterious card packs, redeem cards, trade, track card sets, and more.It also provides an experience value system that can be used to unlock additional rewards such as special collections.

Grailed

Built on Solana, Grailed is another tokenized Pokémon card trading platform where you can buy used cards or open a card package digitally. It is different from other projects mentioned so far, and it is priced in its own virtual currency gemstone, with 1000 gems selling for 0.05 SOL.The cheapest card bag I’ve seen here sells for 2862 gems, and it’s currently priced at around $30.

ToCa

Built on Solana, ToCa offers a prize game similar to PoolTogether. In other words, it is not a card trading market, but a prize pool center, each prize pool is backed by PSA Level 10 Pokémon cards. To join, you simply purchase ToCa’s native token TCG and every dollar you hold will be counted to qualify for all active prize pools.

Beezie

Beezie is built on Flow, but it also supports cross-chain payments through ETH, SOL, etc.Additionally, Flow is compatible with EVM, so you can start using your existing Ethereum wallet.Beezie offers a variety of features, including tokenization and vault services. Its main attraction, though, is its general market and claw machine that allows you to resell immediately at 90% of any card’s market value. The platform also supports comics and sports cards.

DYFI

DYLI is built on the Abstract platform and provides a series of Pokémon-related products (such as graded cards, non-graded cards, single-card supplement packs, sealed collections, etc.), as well as non-Pokémon-related products (such as precious metals, peripheral products, Magic cards, etc.).The platform also offers some basic Dabble and Flip games that are easy and fun to get random cards. In addition, there is a creator studio here, which you can use to set up your own peripherals.

Drip

Built on Ronin, Drip supports a variety of physical collections in addition to Pokémon cards. It is also known for providing live shopping features, where community sellers can host video experience events such as “Tear” or “Transport” events. If you’ve recently made some moves on Ronin and want to expand beyond the game, Drip is an excellent option you can consider right now.
