Ethereum’s DENCUN upgrade has been prepared on March 13th. On Thursday’s core developers on Thursday reiterated that the client team turned the entire system to the main network.
People’s attention quickly returned to the next upgraded candidate after Dencun, and now it is calledPECTRA is the Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP), which specializes in the abstraction of accounts.
Challenge: Make the account abstraction roadmap more specific.
Ethereum co -founder Vitalik Buterin has rarely participated in the core developer’s conference call recently. He started discussions by calling for “long -term goal consistent”.
Buterin said that in addition to some “small things”,There are four main goals in Ethereum account system transformation.it should:
-
Allow key rotation and key abandonment;
-
Have anti -quantum computer capabilities;
-
Allow batch processing;
-
Allow sponsorship transactions.
Ethereum’s “EOA” model obviously cannot meet the first two goals, so the entire EVM ecosystem needs to be shifted to the smart contract account (SCA).
“One of the best things to avoid is to create two completely independent developer ecosystems for smart contract wallets and EOA,” Buterin said.
Core developers have previously determined to provide functional upgrades to improve the user experience in the short term, even if they are trying to formulate many years of roadmap in Ethereum.
The first trial account of Ethereum main network is EIP-4337, which debuted for the first time at the ETHDENVER conference in 2023.
“This was originally a test platform,” Yoav Weiss, an Ethereum developer, reminded his colleagues on the phone.”It allows [we] to test the abstraction of test accounts on different EVM chains without having to reach a consensus on the principle of account abstraction.”
Since then, this improvement has produced millions of smart contract accounts.Layer 2 network ZKSYNC and Starknet even use their own 4337 -based account account abstraction methods.
But there is a problem.Weiss said that these customized implementations have led to fragmentation of wallet -you cannot use Starknet’s Argent wallet -and potential new attack medium on other chains.
The solution is a standardized and secure version that can be used by any Layer 2 to achieve a better cross -chain user experience.
“Whether or not us, this will happen, so we might as well help them do things well,” Weiss said.
Path of the future
Developers focus on two competitive EIP:EIP-3074 and 5806These two EIPs are considered to be a comprehensive smart contract account system on Ethereum.
Core developers LightClient and Andrew Ashkhmin favors the former, while Weiss outlines some advantages of the latter.
Everyone agrees that more discussions need to be discussed, but one thing is clear: whether PECTRA will win, it should maintain a path to further innovation.
“We need to ensure that EIP will not make our account abstraction difficult in the future. In this sense, these two [3074 and 5806] are very good,”Weiss agrees.
Developers must weigh the need to improve Ethereum to the current user, while maintaining the same trajectory of the future development of the Internet.
Ericon’s customer team’s software engineer Ashkmin saidEIP-3074 is quite specific in EOA, but “there is a very natural path that can extend it to a smart contract.”
Ahmed Bitar, the core developer of Nethermind, said that this is a good thing. He pointed out thatUnless “ordinary users” can easily handle smart contract accounts, EOA will not disappear.
Buterin does not make a decision, but his opinion is influential in the Ethereum community, and he accepted this method.
“I think this is the reason for discussing 3074 and 5806,” he said.”In the long run, if the last stage EOA is deleted as the protocol function, this does not mean that users will be forced to change their wallets.”
