In a recent statement, the Ethereum Foundation revealed that the highly anticipated DENCU network upgrade has been successfully activated on all the test network.
The upgrade is planned to be online on March 13, 2024 on Ethereum. The upgrade is an important milestone in terms of enhanced scalability and reduced user transaction costs.
Following the successful upgrade of Shapella last year, Dencun has upgraded several significant changes to improve the efficiency and capacity of the Ethereum network.
One of the key functions is to introduce temporary data Blob through Ethereum improvement proposal 4844, which is kindly called “Protodanksharding”.
This new function is expected to reduce the second -level transaction cost, making Ethereum more convenient and cost -effective for users.
BLOBS has minimized the storage and processing requirements by cached short -term transaction verification data, which further enhanced the network trading capabilities of the network.
As announced, these functions are critical to support the number of users on the growing decentralized application (DAPPS) ecosystem and the number of users on the Ethereum platform.
In order to ensure the smooth transition to the upgraded main network, the Ethereum Foundation has released a specification to the community, especially the stakeholders and node operators.
At the same time, the Ethereum Foundation sends suggestions to users to update the execution layer and consensus client of its nodes to a specific version listed in the foundation.
Both the beacon node and the verification device client should be updated to ensure that they are upgraded with Dencun.
If the outdated Ethereum client is involved in the upgrade, it will cause stuck on the incompatible chain, cannot send ETH, or run on the Ethereum network after Dencun upgraded.
The DENCUN upgraded version was first launched on the Sepolia Test Network in January 2024. It has been successfully deployed on the Goerli testing network before.
According to the official statement, the upgrade is in line with the wider strategy of the network’s response to scalability challenges and improving the overall performance of the agreement.
Once fully implemented, the DENCUN upgrade is expected to significantly improve ETH’s transaction processing capabilities, making the transaction volume of network processing per second may exceed 100,000.
In the end, the Foundation announced the upgrade Dencun, which is also the tradition of Ethereum. Even if the star name is used to represent the consensus, and the city name of the DevCon city is used to indicate the execution layer upgrade.
Dencun is composed of “Deneb” and “Cancun”. “Deneb” is a prominent first -class star in the swan, and “Cancun” is the location of DEVCON 3.
