Where did the airdrop go?
Recently, airdrop farmers were disappointed with lower-than-expected allocations for popular airdrops such as Scroll and Grass.Although people are generally pessimistic about airdrop farming, there is reason to be hopeful.
●The market is recovering, and those teams that have been postponing TGE may start airdropping tokens.
●The bullish price trend means that new airdrop tokens are unlikely to be sold immediately.
●There are many excellent agreements that have not issued tokens so far.
Our team has compiled a list of 77 potential airdrops that you can start farming today.
First, let’s take a look at the overview of airdrop farming at the end of 2024.
1, airdrop type
Airdrop farming strategies can be roughly divided into 4 categories: test network, task, staking and protocol use.
(1) Test Network
The reason why many people like testnet airdrops is simple because they are free.
Due to the free nature of test networks and the surge in airdrop farming in recent years, many test networks now have hundreds of thousands or even millions of active addresses.
With a few exceptions like Sonic, most testnets do not promise to send airdrops to users, so if you use the testnet, you may spend a lot of time swiping tasks but won’t reap any financial benefits.
In your airdrop farming plan, the testnet belongs to one of two cases:
●You start at 0 and want to get some cryptocurrency startup capital (even if you spend your time on work in this case, then buy cryptocurrency directly with your work pay).
●You are relaxed and just want to get some extra cryptocurrency through an easy way, and also want to try out the new network. This is also the only time I have used the testnet.
(2)Task
As the name suggests, it is the social and on-chain tasks that the agreement gives you.
The rewards for these tasks are usually Discord badges, commemorative NFTs, or “Points”.
These rewards are usually free (or require a small amount of money to be redeemed), but I have a much better attitude towards them than to testnets.
The reason why I prefer mission-type airdrops to testnets is simple.First, task-like protocols express their intention to reward participants more frankly.Second, tasks are usually not only to reward users, but also to give them a better understanding of the protocol—the task will guide participants to use the protocol and consume content about the protocol. If I’m a newbie in encryption and want to know where to get started, tasks will be a great option.
(3) Pledge
That is, pledge one token, hoping to obtain another airdrop token from its ecosystem.
Staking airdrops have always been the most common in the Cosmos ecosystem, with stakers of ATOM, OSMO, TIA and other Cosmos chains all gaining a large number of airdrop tokens.
The most popular airdrop pledged tokens this year are those with large ecosystems, such as TIA, DYM and PYTH.
While this approach still has no potential, protocols often become more stringent in allocating airdrops to stakers, as many people allocate stakes to 5, 10, or even more than 100 wallets.
(4) Protocol usage
This type of airdrop actually has a lot of room for value (at least some of them).
Protocol usage airdrops can be considered as a kind of liquidity mining. You will not receive liquidity mining incentives continuously, but will either receive them all at once or at the end of each “epoch”.
But which agreements may issue airdrops? How do you know what is worth farming?
The easiest way to discover potential airdrop protocols is to look at those that don’t have tokens yet.DefiLlama’s airdrop dashboard has a great list.
But even on this list, there are more than 1,500 token-free protocols. How do you know which ones are worth farming?
Generally speaking, I will find 3 conditions suitable for airdrop farming in the agreement:
●No tokens. If the protocol already has tokens, the chance of airdrops in the future will be much lower. There are few exceptions.
●Not many wallets.Remember Jito?Even small-scale traders who only saved $100 received five-digit airdrops. The reason is that although it is one of the largest DeFi apps on Solana, there are actually only about 10,000 users using it.
●incur (or potentially incur) high fees. The most valuable airdrops are those that incur significant fees.If an agreement does not incur fees, it is unlikely to have a high market cap, and if it does not have a high market cap, it is unlikely to have much value for airdrops. If it does not incur expenses now, but will have a significant increase in the future, then it is still worth farming. Some people started farming Jito last summer. With the development of Solana’s network, Jito has also grown, and these people have taken the lead in accumulating Jito airdrop points.
2, Where can I find airdrops?
There are two good places to find profitable airdrops: chains in growth and killer applications.
Solana released a series of valuable airdrops this year and last year because it grew exponentially.Prior to this, Arbitrum’s airdrop was lucrative because it was a widely used chain, and its airdrops only emerged after a year of continuous growth.Several airdrop chains I will consider currently include Base, Sui and Stacks.
Uniswap’s app is notoriously high-value and widely spread. This is because Uniswap is the leading crypto app for 2020 and one of the most important dApps of all time. One of the main problems with farming killer apps is that if these apps have found their appeal, there is no reason to issue tokens.Fortunately, these apps usually bring fun to users (I thought of pump dot fun and Polymarket), so if you’re active in the crypto space, you might encounter them somehow.
